Missing the scent of the christmas market? "Even at home, one or the other delicacy can be prepared quickly and easily, which would otherwise be available for snacking at the christmas markets", christine werner from poxdorf has a tip from the countrywomen of forchheim for the christmas season in her own four walls.
"The main advantage of making your own food is that you can modify the recipes to suit your own tastes and use regional products for the ingredients", adds district farmer rosi kraus. That christmas market classics can also be prepared with local products, you show with a recipe for roasted hazelnuts or walnuts. "Not only do they taste good, but they also give off a wonderful christmas scent throughout the house.", says christine werner.
The recipe
Ingredients: 200 g local walnut or hazelnut kernels, 150 g brown sugar, 80 ml water, spices such as chili, cinnamon or vanilla to taste.
Preparation: boil water, sugar and spices in a pan. When the sugar water boils, add the nuts and stir well. Let the nut mixture boil, stirring constantly, until the water has evaporated and the sugar begins to crystallize. Continue stirring over medium heat until the sugar begins to melt slightly. Place the baked nuts on a baking tray lined with baking paper and make sure they do not stick together. After cooling, the roasted nuts can be stored in airtight packaging or eaten right away. White table sugar can also be used instead of brown sugar.
Christine werner advice: "however, the brown sugar has a rather malty-caramel taste. The finished, cooled nuts can be packed in a metal tin, a twist-off jar or a self-folded sandwich bag. To give away then simply still another mad trailer with inscription or the prescription, a small branch and a red loop in addition anhangen."
